VIJAYAWADA: In an attempt to take the wind out of sails of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, on the eve of completion of his one year in office, YSR Congress supremo YS Jaganmohan Reddy began a two-aday hunger strike ‘Samara Deeksha’ at Y Junction in Mangalagiri of Guntur district on Wednesday.
The YSRC president arrived at the venue in the morning and began his deeksha, which was an attempt to discredit the TDP for its failure to keep its promises on loan waiver to farmers and women members of self-help groups, providing one job to each household and forcing the Centre to grant special category status to the state. After his arrival at the venue, Jagan garlanded the statue of his late father and former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Along with him, several YSRC MLAs too began their hunger strike.
He released what he described as a ‘Praja Ballot’ to know the opinion of people on the rule of Chandrababu Naidu.“People would give marks to Chandrababu Naidu through this ballot paper. The paper has 100 questions and those answering are required to express their opinion. I want the people to teach a fitting lesson to Naidu through this ballot,” Jagan said.
Referring to the unkept promise of securing special category status for AP, he wanted to know why the people were not demanding an answer from Naidu. It was unfortunate that even before special category status was incorporated into the AP Reorganization Bill, it was passed and made into an Act. “If you cannot get special category status for AP, why are you continuing as MPs?” he asked the TDP Parliamentarians.
In the name of construction of capital, he was usurping their lands without any qualms, Jagan said and wondered as to why Naidu does not know anything about his deeksha when the entire people of Andhra Pradesh knew why he was on deeksha.
