Nokia Breaks Up with Symbian, Will Stay with Windows Now

As per various media reports, Nokia has ended manufacturing and supporting its Symbian line of mobile phones, the last shipment of the handsets running on Symbian platform will come to markets till the end  of summers 2013.

FT has quoted Nokia, saying “It took 22 months to get a Symbian phone out of the door. With Windows Phone, it is less than a year. We spend less time having to tinker with deep-lying code and more time on crafting elements of the experience that make a big difference, such as around photography, maps, music and apps in general.”

By making this move, Nokia has made it clear that its entire focus is now on Windows Phone platform and its association with Microsoft is going to stay for a very long time now.

The Symbian responsibilities have now been shifted to Accenture by Nokia under an agreement. Nokia in a statement to media said, “Under the agreement, originally announced on June 22, 2011, Accenture will provide Symbian-based software development and support services to Nokia at least until 2016 and also become the preferred supplier for Nokia in its transition to Windows Phone.”nokia-logo
